Investigating driver knowledge of crosswalk
CSC Research (Center for Sustainable Communities):
In recent years, cities have increasing installed beacon systems to increase awareness of pedestrians at crosswalks. These beacons can only do their job if drivers know what they are supposed to do at them. Given the newness of some of these beacon systems, this is not given. In this study, a survey was conducted on driver perceptions of two types of crosswalk beacons. CSC student assistants also explored how much we should expect drivers to know by looking at state driver education handbooks for content on crosswalk beacons.
