GEP 396 Water Research Training

Research the impact of homeless encampments on water quality along Santa Rosa Creek in the City of Santa Rosa.

Logistics:

  •    Offered both Fall and Spring as a sequence (new students may join during the fall semester only)
  •    2 units per semester 
  •    Fall semester: Students focus on data collection and conduct a lot of field work
  •    Spring semester: Students focus on data analysis and they present the results of their work at a water conference

Learning objectives (skills):

  •    protocol development
  •    collection and filtration of creek water grab samples
  •    data analysis and visualization
  •    network and collaborate with scientists at Santa Rosa Water, the North Coast Regional Water Quality Control Board, and agencies offering services to unhoused individuals
  •    prepare and present project results within SSU and the larger water community
